Questions before you install
How do I get crypto prices in Google Sheets?
Install the CoinTable add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace, then type
=CT_PRICE("BTC") in any cell. The cell shows Bitcoin's price in US dollars. To track a list of coins, put the tickers in column A and fill =CT_PRICE(A2) down. If a cell asks you to activate CoinTable, choose Activate once from Extensions › CoinTable.Is CoinTable free?
Yes. The free plan includes 150 updates a month, all 10 formulas, 10,000+ coins and 50+ currencies, with no credit card. Free updates reset on the 1st of each month (UTC). When they run out, cells keep the prices they show until the reset. Plus adds unlimited updates for normal use for $48 a year.
Which coins and currencies can I track?
CoinTable covers 10,000+ coins by ticker, from Bitcoin and Ethereum to small altcoins. Prices come in 50+ currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP and JPY, and in BTC, ETH or sats. USD is the default; add a currency as the second argument:
=CT_PRICE("BTC", "EUR"). When two coins share a ticker, CoinTable uses the larger one.What counts as an update?
An update is one value CoinTable looks up: one coin, one metric and one currency, plus the period for % change. Refresh Data looks up each distinct value once, so 50 cells with
=CT_PRICE("BTC") use 1 update. A sheet of 10 coins uses 10 updates per refresh, so the free plan covers about 15 refreshes a month. Lookups that end in an error count too.How often do prices update?
Prices update when you choose Refresh Data from Extensions › CoinTable; nothing updates on its own. A new formula looks up its price when you type it. CoinTable's server caches market data for 5 to 30 minutes, so prices aren't up to the second.
Do I need an API key or an account?
No. CoinTable needs no signup and no API key. The first time you use it, it creates an anonymous account with a random key, without your email. If you buy Plus, LemonSqueezy asks for your email and payment details at checkout.
Is my spreadsheet data private?
Yes. Only each formula's ticker, currency and period leave Google Sheets, with an anonymous key. Your amounts and the rest of the spreadsheet stay where they are. CoinTable can access only the spreadsheets you use it in, not the rest of your Google Drive, and never collects your email. Your data isn't used for ads and isn't sold.
Where does the price data come from?
CoinTable gets market data from a third-party crypto data provider. Its own server at cointable.pro fetches the data, caches it for 5 to 30 minutes and passes it to your sheet. You don't need an account with the provider.
Can I get a refund for Plus?
